This is probably my anthem of 2017, such a great band on the rise.
I was lucky enough to spend the whole day on Sunday, celebrating my beautiful wife’s birthday. The last part of the day was watching FVC at the Atterbury theatre and I was truly blown away by the ex-frontman’s maturity in front of a very civilised crowd. My first exposure to Fokofpolisiekar was seeing a sticker above a door in a koshuis in Stellenbosch in the early 2000s. I heard there was a band by that name, but I hadn’t heard anything by them and I…Continue Reading “The evolution of Francois van Coke”
I posed a question to my Facebook friends yesterday, what is the best rock n roll riff of all time? I got some great answers, but they were all wrong. Today marks the fortieth anniversary of the album, Born to Run. He was just 25 when it was released, how crazy is that! The songs on the album include Side one “Thunder Road” “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” “Night” “Backstreets” Side two “Born to Run” “She’s the One” “Meeting Across the River” “Jungleland” “So you’re scared and…Continue Reading “Born to Run turns fourty”

Johnny Cash – Hurt Many tend to think that this is a Johnny Cash original, but was actually written by Trent Reznor from NIN. Despite it being a cover, it really sounds like it was written for the man in black. I remember the first time I saw the video, I was fixated on the screen for the four odd minutes that it lasted. 2. Matt…Continue Reading “10 covers that you should listen to…now”
